Why I did the show

Visibility is vital in every aspect of life. As the saying goes, If you can’t see it, you can’t be it." When I first entered the world of motorsports, there were very few people who looked like me. The narratives surrounding disabled drivers often focused solely on accidents that led to their disabilities. For me, Alex Zanardi was the only “mainstream” driver I could identify with.

Thankfully, the landscape of motorsports is changing. Drivers like Robbie Wickens, alongside stories spotlighting female and Black competitors and leaders, are challenging the sport’s homogeneity. In my own way, I wanted to contribute to that change. That’s the mission behind this docu-series: to show the world that race, gender, orientation, and ability are not the determinants of success in motorsports.

But my hope for this show goes beyond inspiring those who share my background or experiences. I aim to motivate anyone with a dream of getting into motorsports but who may hesitate. Driving is an art—a creative exercise. While race cars may look alike, they each drive differently. Each car reflects the unique preferences of its driver, and I’m not just talking about adaptations like hand controls.

The only true prerequisites for success in motorsports are a willingness to learn—and, perhaps more importantly, a willingness to fail. My hope is that this show gives every viewer the courage to step outside their comfort zone and try something new.

Forward and Faster,
Torsten
